Milestones, momentum, and starting lines.

A few things I’m learning — and unlearning — at 35.

Hello from the other side of a milestone.
I turned 35 in May.

I didn’t throw a party or make a big announcement.
But I did what I always do when the calendar turns — I thought.

About where I’ve been.
About what’s next.
About the strange middle ground between "just starting" and "already deep in it."

Here’s what I landed on:
You’re never really done starting.

Not at 45.
Not at 35.
Not ever.

Some things I’m carrying into this next season:

  • You have to be your own biggest cheerleader.
If you’re waiting for the standing ovation before you start, you’ll be waiting forever.

  • Find time to read every day.
Not a scroll. Not a swipe. A real book. Real thinking.

  • Put your phone in a different room.
    You won’t miss anything important.

  • You’re never too old to start something new.
(PhD application at 35? Why not.)

  • Clarity lives on the other side of action.
    Not overthinking.

This is a reminder.
For me. For you.

You don’t have to wait for January.
You don’t have to wait for permission.
You don’t have to wait at all.

Start wherever you are.

This Week…

Start something new. A new hobby, a new book, a new writing project, whatever will push you slightly out of your comfort zone.

FROM MY SHELF

Fahrenheit-182: A Memoir by Mark Hoppus.

A raw and witty look at growing up, building a band, and surviving the unexpected. Hoppus reflects on identity, creativity, and resilience with the same sharp humor that made Blink-182 iconic.

FROM MY QUEUE

Playlist: “Classical Bangers” on Spotify.

This playlist is on constantly in our house, our car, and often in my office. It’s great background music to work to, read to, cook to, and drive to.
