Don't Rush The Arrival
When every milestone becomes a blur, it’s time to pause and look around.
There’s always another milestone waiting.
Another goal to hit.
Another launch to plan.
Another version of yourself you’re hoping to grow into.
It’s easy to live in the next.
But lately, I’ve been sitting with what I’m missing in the now.
Earlier this week, I re-read Ithaka by C.P. Cavafy.
It’s a poem about the journey — not the destination.
About how the richness of life comes not from checking boxes but from paying attention along the way.
"Keep Ithaka always in your mind.
Arriving there is what you’re destined for.
But don’t hurry the journey at all.
Better if it lasts for years,
so you’re old by the time you reach the island,
wealthy with all you’ve gained on the way,
not expecting Ithaka to make you rich.”
This part of the poem hit hard.
Because if I’m honest, I’m always in a rush.
To finish the project.
To hit the next milestone.
To arrive somewhere that proves the work was worth it.
But sometimes the thing I need most isn’t momentum.
It’s presence.
Not acceleration — appreciation.
To stop and smell the roses.
To take a beat.
Because when I’m 90, and looking back at life, it’s those unscheduled, small moments that are likely to be the ones that standout.
Not completing the project early and on budget.
This Week…
What if you stop trying to get “there” faster and just make more space to enjoy here?
Because maybe Ithaka isn’t a finish line.
Maybe it’s just the reason we started at all.
